Hugo the Happy Starfish- The Secret to Hapiness Children’s Book Review

Hugo the StarfishThe best part of the day is bedtime because I get to sit down and read stories and talk about their favorite book.  I was given the opportunity to do a children’s book review and my kids loved this book.  To keep every night exciting, I always have to look for new books and especially those books that actually have some kind of lesson at the end.

Hugo is a little starfish. He finds his life dull. Tired of feeling sad, one day he sets off to find happiness. After much searching, he discovers something that makes his heart do a somersault! Sharing with others is the only thing that makes him truly happy; all other things just made him feel better for a little while.

The lesson of empathy is rarely taught at such an early age and I don’t see why not.  Life is not just about having the best but about helping others in need and understanding other people who may be going through a tough time.  It is never too early to teach such a valuable lesson to your kids.  It will help mold your kids to be compassionate, understanding, and to empathize with others.

The best part is that a few Spanish words are added into the story but it is also included in the vocabulary section in the back.  Teaching my kids Spanish is really important to me and I am always looking for books that can teach it in a fun new way.
About the Author: Suzy Liebermann – a German born linguist now living in the USA has traveled the world in pursuit of language, art, and culture.  Having found it, she now shares it with the world’s teachers, parents, and children through educational literature. Leveraging her decades of global experience teaching in German, Spanish, French, and English she wrote the exciting series of HUGO THE HAPPY STARFISH to help educate children about their feelings, their attitude, their choices and the consequences that follow. The program is particularity aligned with the aims and values she upheld as a teacher of cultural art and foreign language at prestigious International Baccalaureate World School.
For more info on the author you or the books  You can also find it on Amazon.

I highly recommend this book if you are looking to teach your kids the lesson about empathy.  Join Hugo on his journey to learn more about his fun character and life skills but most importantly discovering the mystical underwater world.
