As a blogger, I am always looking for new inspiration. This is why I wanted to take a moment to interview another blogger like me who is ready to share their unique and entertaining view on life. I hope you enjoy this interview with an unsound mind and feel free to check out her amazing shots.
What made you start the blog? I started my blog because I’m super quiet and I have a tendency to keep things bottled up inside until they explode. I also have a sarcastic side that I don’t always get to let out. I started this blog to release all the crap I hold inside and to make people laugh with my sarcastic thoughts on life.
Well, if you have read any of my recent posts, you know that all that changed when my mom died suddenly and unexpectedly. All the things I used to think and write about suddenly didn’t seem important anymore. I went from writing 3 or 4 posts a week to maybe 2 or 3 a month. I now write only when I’m inspired and lately, I only write about what I have learned from losing my mom. I don’t know where this blog is going. For those of you who started to follow me because I’m sometimes funny and a little sarcastic, don’t worry – nothing has changed. I expect I’ll be back to that soon. For those of you who followed me because of the inspirational things I have been writing about lately, don’t worry – that’s not going to change either. Actually, these ideas can sometimes marry together to make a great blog post. Sarcastic inspiration! After all, this blog is titled “Jane’s Unsound Mind.”
What was the best advice you ever got? Right before I was married, someone gave me some really GREAT advice. She said that whenever my husband makes me mad or hurts my feelings to stop and decide whether he did it on purpose. If the answer is “no,” then it’s probably not worth the fight.
What is your favorite quote? Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. –Unknown
What tips can you recommend to someone who is starting a blog? Just be real. No one enjoys phony. Unless you have a gift for telling your stories in a very clever way, don’t write about what you did today or last week. That’s what facebook is for and that’s not interesting writing. Write about important things to you and if you’re funny, write about the funny things you notice in life. Most importantly, if you want your blog to be noticed, you need to tag it. This way, it gets noticed in Internet searches and on your chosen blog site.
How do you make such a simple picture look stunning? Most of my pictures are not edited very much. I think the beauty of nature doesn’t need much editing. God took care of that. I usually add vibrancy to the color and sometimes a little bit of contrast but that’s about it. I am learning how to do HDR right now but until I master that, most of my images are not edited very much. It’s all about framing. I usually don’t like a shot that’s perfectly centered. I might make it slightly off center and sometimes even tilted. It’s all about being creative.
How do you express your own opinion of what you see when you take a picture? I try to emphasize the beauty I see. If it’s a picture of a rose, I might make the entire picture black and white and then make the rose in color. If it’s a sunset, I usually up the vibrancy so that the colors that caught my attention when I saw the sunset are caught on camera. I try to always take pictures that make people stop for a minute and see the beauty I saw when I took the photo.
What do you predict for 2013? I hope to have more time to devote to my photography. I want to take a class to learn more. I am still so new at this but learning a lot from other photographers. I know I definitely have some natural talent so I want to see what more I can learn. It’s such a stress reliever to me to go out with my camera and take pictures of the beauty I see. Free stress therapy! All in all, I’m always learning and open to critique and always trying to find that next beautiful shot!
