It is no fun having a toddler sick with bronchitis. It’s hard to see your toddler acting different and not their usual little bubbly personality. I think as parents we take it harder when they are sick and try to think of a way to make them feel better. There is nothing that I would not do to make my baby’s sickness go away; anywhere from cooking a zillion different meals to see if they can eat anything to make her feel better. I have cooked three different meals for every meal just so she can have something in her stomach. Besides giving your child the acetaminophen and Ibuprofen, there is so much more that you can do to keep your child happy when she feels at her worse.
Having one toddler with energy to play and one with no energy I decided that I needed to be creative on how to entertain the both of them. But to do it in a way that doesn’t take away too much of energy since I had three nights without sleep.
- Reading a book together entertained the both of them at the same time. She absolutely loves books and the fact that we snuggle on the bed or couch to read a book was her favorite.
- Making music together was another activity that they loved. We have a piano at home so they love playing with the piano. Even though it may provoke you to get headaches, it’s nice to see that they are interested in an instrument and they are being entertained.
- Build a fort in the middle of your living room. They were so excited when I said we are building a castle that they started jumping around. I never knew a little activity can really get them all excited.
- Snuggling together and leaving all the chores for another day. It’s hard to do when you see the whole house falling apart but believe me you will have peace of mind knowing that you were there for your little patient.
As parents we do everything and anything to make our kids feel better and I am sure there are a lot more activities that I could do with them. If you want to take an extra step to help your kids not be bored and cranky, then in my opinion, it will make them feel 100% better that you are with them throughout this whole process.
I would love to hear what activities you do with your precious one when they are sick.
